People Do Not Use the Yellow Pages
Yellow Page Advertising Doesn't Work Anymore

There was a time when the Yellow Pages was the "in" thing. It seems like so long ago now. Just about any necessity, or not, could be found in its pages, from a podiatrist to pizza to a refrigerator repair person. For decades it has also been the end all in the advertisement world, its pages lined with catch-phrases geared to draw people in. It has served its purpose well, but the Yellow Pages are on the verge of becoming all but extinct.

There is a reason why people don't use the Yellow Pages anymore. It is not because it has lost its usefulness, as much as it is the fact that something better has come along, something with a much further reach and that is more convenient to use. When push comes to shove, most people want to eliminate as much hassle as possible, and save some cash while their at it. Who can blame them?

The Internet has pushed the information industry into an entirely new era, and it has taken advertisement along for the ride. Amazingly, it is not finished expanding. Practically everyone has access to the Internet to at least some extent. Thanks to ever improving wireless technology, more people are carrying Internet access in their hip pockets.

What does this mean for the local business owner? It is nothing major; and, in reality, it means the new advertisement possibilities are endless. You no longer have to spend up to hundreds of thousands of dollars advertising in newspapers and magazines. Neither do you need to spend equally outrageous prices to advertise on television.

These methods are not necessarily worth the expenditure because they leave too much up to chance. You actually have to hope that someone is watching or looking when your commercial is airing, or when they come across your ad in the paper.

Online promotions can be some of the most effective. And the good news, they are often the most inexpensive to launch and maintain. Imagine creating thousands of paper coupons and mailing coupons to thousands of unsuspecting people. The majority of them may not even need the services or products your business offers. So, what happens to your coupons? The estimated coupon redemption percentage (number of people who actually redeem the coupons you've sent) is 1%. That's 1 out of 10 of your coupons going nowhere but in the trash bin. You will be throwing that much money away.

Now, imagine how much money you would save creating online coupons, which get posted on coupon websites for consumers to view when they need them. Instead of you blanketing the country with paper coupons that end up in landfills, you let your future customers seek you out. It's safe to say, "move over Yellow Pages, there's something easier!"
